Carlo Rizzi dirige obras de W. A. Mozart, R. Strauss y E. Vila en el tercer programa de abono de la OSG

November 18, 2008El director de orquesta milanés Carlo Rizzi regresa al podio de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia para ofrecer un programa en el que dirigirá obras de W. A. Mozart, R. Strauss y E. Vila y que tendrá lugar el viernes 21 de noviembre en el Palacio de la Ópera de A Coruña.

El programa se iniciará con la interpretación de Cantos y ritmos salvajes, del compositor gallego Eligio Vila y estrenada en Venezuela en 1998, mientras que de Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart orquesta y director ofrecerán su Sinfonía nº 39 en mi bemol mayor. El concierto se cerrará con la interpretación del poema sinfónico Also sprach Zarathustra, de Richard Strauss.

Rubén Gimeno conducts the Galician Youth Symphony Orchestra in a concert to mark the end of its first session of the 2008/09 academic year

November 12, 2008The Valencia-born conductor Rubén Gimeno will conduct the concert given by the Galician Youth Symphony Orchestra to mark the end of its first session of the 2008/09 academic year, which will take place in the Palacio de la Ópera in A Coruña at 7.30 p.m. on Sunday 16 November. The programme includes works by Haydn, Takemitsu and Janácek.

 

The GSO Choir celebrates its tenth anniversary, supported by the Children’s Choir and Youth Choir

November 11, 2008The Galician Symphony Orchestra Choir celebrated its tenth anniversary on 8 November in a concert in which it was supported by the members of the GSO Children’s and Youth Choirs, directed by José Luis Vázquez and Fernando L. Briones, respectively. Joan Company, the artistic director of the GSO choir project and choirmaster of the GSO Senior Choir conducted Vivaldi’s Gloria in a concert in which the three choirs joined forces for the Alleluia Chorus from Handel’s Messiah.

The GSO’s concerts for schools start the year off with a programme devoted to music inspired by A Coruña

November 11, 2008The Galician Symphony Orchestra kicked off its 2008/2009 programme of concerts for schools with a concert consisting entirely of music from Galicia and connected in some way with the city of A Coruña, as a way of celebrating the 800th anniversary of the granting of its charter. The GSO’s intention behind this choice of programme is to bring the music inspired by the city’s streets and social gatherings over a century ago to the attention of its youngest inhabitants.

The Galician Symphony Orchestra Choir celebrates its tenth anniversary in a joint concert with the Children’s Choir and Youth Choir

November 4, 2008The Galician Symphony Orchestra Choir, whose choirmaster is Joan Company, will celebrate its tenth anniversary on Saturday November 8 in a concert in which it will be joined by the Children’s Choir and Youth Choir. The programme for this anniversary event will consist of works by Benjamin Britten, Franz Joseph Haydn and Antonio Vivaldi.

October 28, 2008Following on its journey through Beethoven’s Symphonies, Festiclass, organised by the Galician Symphony Orchestra, explores different musical tracks in a series of four concerts featuring works by Sibelius, Mahler, Falla, Rodrigo and Mendelssohn with the collaboration of soloists like violinists Frank Peter Zimmermann and Isabelle Faust, guitarist Kaori Muraji and Galician-born pianist José Núñez.

López Cobos and the GSO to play works by Messiaen and Poulenc in the second subscription concert

October 28, 2008Jesús López Cobos conducts the Galician Symphony Orchestra in a programme that includes works by Messiaen and Poulenc, on Friday 31 October in the Palacio de la Ópera in A Coruña. The Choir of the Community of Madrid and the Chamber Choir of the Palau de la Música Catalana will also take part in this second subscription concert of the 2008/09 season, which also features soprano Arantxa Armentia, pianist Patricia Barton and Fabienne Martin-Besnard, who plays the Ondes Martenot. The Galician Symphony Orchestra brings together some of the world’s best Wagnerian singers for Die Walküre, to celebrate the start of the new concert season

The GSO announces auditions for flute, oboe and trombone

October 31, 2008The GSO announces a new series of auditions to select a deputy principal flute, a co-principal oboe and a deputy principal trombone. The closing date for the submission of CVs and recordings (on CD) is 15 January 2009 for those wishing to opt for the flute and oboe positions, whilst for that of trombone the deadline is 25 February 2009. Auditions will be held in the Palacio de la Ópera in A Coruña on 16 February 2009 (flute and oboe) and 26 March 2009 (trombone). Full details of the general conditions and the annexes corresponding to each position (in pdf format) can be downloaded from this website.

The GSO launches its series of concerts for schools with a programme called ‘Music in Marineda’

October 22, 2008The Consorcio para la Promoción de la Música announces the results of the auditions for the Galician Youth Symphony Orchestra held in the Palacio de la Ópera in A Coruña on 18 and 19 October 2008.

The GSO increases the number of single tickets available for each subscription concert

October 21, 2008The GSO has decided to increase the number of seats available to non-subscribers, with 85 tickets to go on sale for each concert during the autumn season that starts on 25 October

The GSO Youth Choir, winner of the audience prize and runner-up in the official section at the 7th National Choir Contest

October 13, 2008The Galician Symphony Orchestra’s Youth Choir won the audience prize and was runner-up in the official section of the 7th ‘Antonio José’  National Choir Contest, held in Burgos on 11 and 12 October with eight choirs from all over Spain taking part.
